Runza Casserole

Enjoy the rich flavors and comforting embrace of this Nebraska-inspired casserole tonight!

  • Total Time: 27 minute
  • Yield: Serves 6-8 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 4 cups shredded cabbage
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cans (8 oz each) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Start by heating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Cook the Filling: In a skillet, cook the ground beef and onion over medium heat until the beef is browned and the onion is translucent. Drain any excess grease.
  3. Add Cabbage: Add the cabbage to the skillet, cooking until it’s softened. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Prepare the Dough: Press one can of crescent roll dough into the bottom and up the sides of the baking dish.
  5. Assemble the Casserole: Layer the beef and cabbage mixture on the dough. Top with mozzarella and cheddar cheese.
  6. Top and Seal: Cover with the second can of dough, sealing the edges.
  7. Bake: Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown.
  8. Serve: Let the casserole cool slightly before serving to help the layers set.
